My Fruitive Challenge: Day 109 — Jesus Christ Superstar

 One of my secondary motivations for losing weight was to look better onstage to play the role of Judas in Jesus Christ Superstar in a summer family theater church production. Last summer my daughters and I played in a  production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. The director called me up, sight unseen, and asked if I’d play the part of Pharaoh. Yes! Sounded like fun to me, and it sure was. I thought that squeezing into a Vegas jumpsuit I rented from a costume shop would add to the humor of the role. I hammed it up with my best fat Elvis impression. I remember the whole experience fondly.


Well, that was one year ago. About 40 lbs ago! 

My performances this weekend went very well, in part because I wasn’t feeling self-conscious about my weight.

My Fruitive Challenge Diet: Day One!

I’m excited to begin my Fruitive Challenge today! It’s a big leap of faith because I had never imagined myself committing to a 100% Whole Foods Plant Based diet! But here I am doing it. I thank my brother Gregg for recruiting and motivating me to give it a try. He’s been eating this way for several years now and he looks much healthier than I do. Here he is advertising his restaurant, Fruitive , on Instagram. Here’s the catch though, for the first two months of the diet, I’m also committed to eating SOS free diet, which means no added salt, oils, or sugar in the food I consume. I have been pretty worried about that part of the plan because I love my salt, oil, and sugar, but I have to say that I had a really good first day of it. I ate fresh fruit for breakfast, rice and salad for lunch, and a rice and beans bowl for dinner. The trick for me is to add a variety of no salt seasonings to taste and to toss in a mix of vegetables including avocado. I had one mishap worth mentioning though

Shipt!

We signed up with Shipt for grocery-getting. It's our first time and it feels luxurious! I could get used to this! Like the first time I felt When Grubhub delivered me a hamburger, But better. Hey, the Shipt employee just texted me. She's on her way. Wait. A breaking update from News 8: "Shipt: Meijer team members at 3 stores test positive for COVID-19" Me: Uhh. Laura: She's here! Stand back. Don't touch. Smile. Say thank you. Wave goodbye. Spray the bags. Wipe the groceries clean. Did you get the receipt? Maybe we can return the COVID-19 For some in-store credit? For now, let's get dinner ready And eat nutritiously! A crown of luxury indeed Fit for a king and queen! I can't get used to this.
